INSTEAD WE WILL BE AT WITHAM TOWN IN AN FA CUP REPLAY ================================= 14th September 101 NOT OUT !! Borough escaped what would have been an undeserved exit from the FA Cup by just 2 seconds in the 101st minute of an exciting 2nd Qualifying Round tie at Coles Park with fellow Isthmian North visiting Witham Town. Witham had scored a scrappy goal early on in the lengthy stoppage time extension. In a hard fought game the physios had been called on several times thus justifying the substantial overtime period. It had been an end to end affair in which both sides had made and wasted a number of half (some even better) chances. After going behind Borough poured forward and got their deserved equaliser when a free kick from way out on the left touchline caused a melee in the crowded goalmouth and it was defender Alaa Oujdi who ended it by blasting a loose ball home from a few yards out. When the game restarted after Borough’s lengthy celebrations the referee called time as soon as the ball was back in play. So instead of a Home League Cup game with Tilbury on Tuesday 17th we will be travelling to Witham's Spa Road stadium (CM8 1UN) for the replay. By then we will know who the winner will be playing for the FA will announce the draw for the 3rd Qualifying Round at 1pm on Monday 16th. (THE WINNER -which was us - WILL BE AT HOME TO LOWESTOFT TOWN, a Step 3 Club in the Southern League Premier Division, ON SATURDAY 28th SEPTEMBER. History repeated itself as the away team scored a late goal and the home team netted a very late equaliser despite being reduced to 10 men. Extra time was goal-less and Borough won the penalty shoot out 4-3) So Borough have played 6 Cup games without defeat - 2 draws and 4 wins - which is in stark contrast to the League record of 4 games, 4 defeats. Wroxham, who we will be visiting for an FA Trophy tie next Saturday, 21st, picked up their first point of the season today so its now only Newmarket Town's goal difference which is keeping us out of the bottom spot and they do have a game in hand.................the UNDER 23's had kicked off an hour earlier at Wadham Lodge and got the weekend off to a winning start with a 3-2 victory.............but the Women's game was a disappointig loss by 4-1 at Coles Park to Watford Development; by no means as one-sided as the scoreline suggests for Borough had at least 50% of posession but never tested the visiting 'keeper. Watford started both halves strongly and scored an early goal in each with the second being quickly followed by an OG and it became 4 midway through the second half. Betty Larkin's late close range finish of a rebound never looked like being more than a consolation................the UNDER 18's lost their League Cup game at Amersham Town on Thursday evening by 7-1 which was a bit unexpected after their 8-1 win at Saffron Walden Town a week earlier. ================================= 2nd July SEASON TICKETS granting free entry to all our 21 Isthmian League HOME matches are again on offer.
