| Game Notes | Borough made a confident return to action after their weather induced two and a half month lay-off and dominated the first half of their visit to Bowers & Pitsea on an excellent pitch. Anthony McDonald and debut making Daniel Aristidou on the wings gave the home side plenty of trouble throughout the game and after several near misses Christopher Benjamin scored the team’s first goal of 2014 after some 25 minutes play with a clinical finish from the edge of the six yard box. An unexpected gift for McDonald, who was standing yards offside in complete isolation but made no attempt to reach the ball, when a mis-headed clearance of a long ball was directed straight to him on the edge of the penalty area enabled him to double the lead as he brought the ball right up to the keeper before sidestepping him to knock the ball into the empty net. Just before the interval Daniel Walker added the third with an accurate ten yard finish into the corner at the end of a flowing move. The Borough goal had been under little threat throughout the first half but the second period was more even with the Borough defence not always looking totally comfortable, especially at set pieces, as Bowers pressed with greater determination; but substitute Dean Fenton, who had only been on the pitch for two minutes put the result beyond doubt after 65 minutes as he worked himself into the clear before slotting the ball low into the corner from six yards out. Borough added a fifth when Nick Nicou was left unmarked as a corner was fired over from the right and stabbed the ball home from close range. Bowers did net a consolation ten minutes from time but there never seemed to be any serious possibility of a threat to Borough’s lead.
