Game NotesA minutes silence at what was the first home game since the death of Borough’s long serving “gatemen” Johnny Flynn preceded a match in which Borough comfortably outplayed their visitors from Northamptonshire who play in Division One of the United Counties League. The visiting ‘keeper Aaron Doughty did well to thwart Dean Fenton as he ran in unchallenged from the right with an early chance but he could do nothing about the 16th minute opener when Anthony McDonald worked his way into the area and set up a clear opening for Darrell Cox who slotted the ball home low into the far corner from a tight angle. And it was the same combination which doubled the score seconds before the interval when McDonald fired over a superbly flighted cross from the left and Cox raced in to bullet home his close range header. In between these goals an outstanding save by Borough ‘keeper Erbil Bozkurt had preserved the lead when Borough’s total unpreparedness as a free kick was awarded ten yards outside the area, enabled the ball to be centred unchallenged form the right bye line and Tyler Merries met it at the far post with a firm downward close-range header which Bozkurt somehow smothered on the line at the foot of the post. Bozkurt was never troubled in the second half with central defenders Joseph O’Cearuill and Daniel Gudgeon in total control of proceedings throughout. An offside flag denied Cox his hat-trick as he floated a free header into the far top corner but four goals in the space of 12 minutes starting in the 69th wnen Lawrence Constanti somehow blasted the ball into the roof of the net from what seemed an impossible angle on the right bye-line. The visitors tormentor in chief, McDonald then weighed in with a brace in the 71st and 76th minutes and Dewayne Clarke ended the scoring in the 80th minute when he dinked a header neatly into the corner to finish a goalmouth scramble. Borough will face a sterner test in the next round when AFC Hayes of the Calor League (the new name of the Southern League) Central Division visit Coles Partk on 31st August.
