Game NotesBOROUGH’S dreams of another trip to Wembley disappeared at the first Vase hurdle in a match which was always exciting and played in a fine spirit. Plenty of chances were created in the first half but Borough’s finishing was not accurate enough to cause serious concern to the visiting ‘keeper. Borough fell behind in the 35th minute when failure to clear a corner decisively enabled Lee Matson to collect the ball and send a hard low drive into the net. Seven minutes later more defensive frailty enabled Jimmy Chatters to double the lead with a low cross shot. After the interval “The Shrimpers” started by far the stronger team and Edison Brahimi kept Borough in the game with two fine saves. It was against the run of play when Jamaal Duncan was able to burst through on the right and although visiting ‘keeper Ed Wooton did well to block his close range shot the ball ran loose across the open goal for Melvin Thompson to race in and knock home. Borough now attacked with greater urgency sensing that the game was now back within their grasp but having brought on two extra attackers they inevitably left gaps at the back for Harwich to exploit and with better finishing the visitors could have made the game safe and the framework was Borough’s saviour on one occasion. Borough’s finishing did not match their approach work although the game remained on a knife edge right until the end. Deep into injury time Borough won a corner and Brahimi executed the customary goalkeepers injury time sortie into the opponents penalty area but the kick was easily cleared. Although Brahimi raced back to his own goal in time there was nothing he could do to prevent Martin Calver finishing a swift breakaway which caught Borough outnumbered at the back with a low close range shot seconds before the final whistle.
