Game NotesBorough’s first match at their Coles Park home since 12th December started well enough with both sides endeavouring to play attractive football on a difficult pitch. A fine drive from Andreas Loizou provided the defender with a rare goal and Borough with a half time lead after 20 minutes. His powerful straight blast from just outside the area dipped just under the bar into the top corner at the last moment and surprised visiting ‘keeper Scott Waters - and just about everyone else present. The first half was an even affair with Borough’s defence sometimes stretched by the speed and trickery of Biggleswade’s Robbie Freeman down the left but managing to prevent any setbacks from his crosses. Meanwhile Borough were unable to create anything more than half chances. The second half was a different affair altogether as Biggleswade upped their tempo and Borough failed to heed an early warning when a low shot rapped the foot of a post. It was no surprise when Angus Stewart hooked a fierce blast on the turn past Erbil Bozkurt from the corner of the six yard box in the 59th minute and Biggleswade always looked the more likely winners thereafter. The decisive goal arrived after 78 minutes, again from Stewart, as he bundled home a free kick at the far post when he and two team-mates were allowed to run through unchallenged onto a free kick lofted in from the right. Disappointingly there was no sign of the spirited late revival which might have been expected of a team a goal down with a quarter of an hour left and Biggleswade confidently continued to seek an improvement in their margin and were unlucky not to do so when a spectacular long distance rocket crashed against the bar. For their part Borough never seriously threatened their opponents goal. What Brendan Rodgers might describe as “a bad day at the office”, although that could be a somewhat flattering appraisal of Borough’s dismal second half performance.
