Game NotesBOROUGH secured their first win of 2013 at the third attempt, although they have yet to be beaten other than in penalty shoot outs. But it was not altogether a convincing performance as they made hard work of edging home against their relegation threatened opponents in a match where Borough made by far the greater number of chances. Borough made the early running but were let down by poor finishing – a problem which was to dog them throughout the game. In fact it was Town who took the lead after some 15 minutes when Chris Webb deceived Erbil Bozkurt with a powerful swerving drive just inside his left hand post. Borough shrugged off this setback and an equaliser looked certain when Darrell Cox met a cross from the right bye-line at the near post and only a few yards out but screwed his shot against the bar. But Dean Fenton soon provided a clinical finish as he burst clear down the right and planted a low cross shot low into the corner. Chris Morgan hit the top of the bar from close range but a second Borough goal arrived minutes before the interval when following a corner the ball was only half cleared and eventually fell to Rakim Richards who fired it home through a crowded goal area with the help of a deflection. Hatfield’s busy fast running forward line posed danger on occasions but fortunately their finishing was no better than Borough’s. After the interval Borough seemed to be comfortably in control creating plenty of opportunities without being able to beat home ‘keeper Emmanuel Olajide whose second half performance justified a “man of the match” accolade. Hatfield continued to look dangerous and got their reward when Sam Wadhans rammed the ball past Bozkurt from a few yards out. It then looked to be anyones match but it was Borough who struck the decisive blow some ten minutes later when a prolonged scramble following a corner gave Fenton the chance to bundle the ball home from point blank range. Hatfield re-doubled their efforts and secured several free-kicks in dangerous areas which gave Bozkurt the chance to show his mettle too but Borough continued to make chances and Olajide kept his side in the game to the last seconds with outstanding one on one thwartings of Cox and Dewayne Clarke.
