Game NotesBorough’s win was by no means as emphatic as the score suggests. Keeper Erbil Bozkurt made an important early stop of a close range effort. Borough took the lead in the 21st minute in somewhat unusual circumstances as the referee blew immediately for a foul leading to vociferous complaints from Borough as they were denied a clear advantage as the ball then reached Roland Namquita with a free run on goal. But justice was done as Dean Fenton’s well flighted free kick was firmly headed home by Namquita. Five minutes later it was 2-0 as another set piece led to a frantic scramble in the home goalmouth and it appeared that Christopher Benjamin got the final touch as it was forced over the line. The first half scoring was completed in the 34th minute when Patou Katshenge headed home a left wing corner from a few yards out. But the result certainly did not look like a foregone conclusion at that stage as Berkhamsted lacked nothing in the way of determination and battled away right to the end. Bozkurt made an exceptional and vital block to beat away a fierce low drive but the fourth Borough goal after 75 minutes put the result beyond any reasonable doubt; and it was a strange affair as when Borough were caught off-side Berkhamsted’s attempt to take a quick short free-kick backfired on them as Darrell Cox intercepted it and although ‘home keeper Carl Tasker did well to block his shot the loose ball fell conveniently for Dewayne Clarke to drive home. Almost immediately Bekhamsted reduced the arrears when Josh Chamberlain’s free kick from just outside the area took an awkward deflection and looped just inside Bozkurt’s right hand post. There never seemed any real danger of a successful Berkhamsted comeback although Bozkurt did well to preserve the three goal lead with a flying leap to his left to push a well struck long shot just past the post. But it was Tasker in the home goal who showed his mettle in the closing stages to prevent further damage to his team’s goal difference.
