Game NotesBorough edged to a nervy win against the team which had so emphatically dumped them out of the FA Vase only three weeks ago. But they had to come from behind as after only 5 minutes Hadley took the lead with their first shot of the game, a low drive by Nick Chrysanthou from the edge of the area, which appeared likely to miss the target but Borough ‘keeper Erbil Bozkurt had thrown himself to his right to cover it just in case and the ball took a wicked deflection off Joe O’Cearuill and flew into the opposite corner. Borough shrugged off this reverse and dominated the remainder of the half in terms of possession. With an unusual line-up placing Dewayne Clarke as the lone spearhead they were unable to give visiting ‘keeper Russell Garland any serious problems with Clarke directing a header from a free kick into his arms. There was a touch of good fortune about Borough’s 36th minute equaliser from the spot as the clumsy challenge which floored Roland Namquita as he was running away from goal in the hope of retrieving a corner from the opposite side was completely unnecessary. With usual penalty taker Richard Worrell still on the bench, O’Cearuill took the responsibility and made no mistake with his low hard drive well beyond the ‘keepers left hand. But there was nothing lucky about the next Borough goal in the 44th minute. Recent signing Patou Katshenge, making his first start for the Club, rocketed a 35 yard free kick high inside Garland’s right hand post. Roberto Carlos would have been envious and it is doubtful if there is a goalkeeper alive who could have stopped it, if in the customary centre of the goal-line position, such was its velocity. Despite being behind Hadley did not immediately step up the pressure in the second half and Borough continued to enjoy plenty of possession but again without unduly testing Garland. Katshenga had another free kick opportunity, and from a closer range, but this time tried to blast it through rather than past the wall and whoever it hit will now be sporting a painful bruise. But in the last 20 minutes Hadley did raise their game and Borough allowed themselves to be forced further and further back to defend and made few threatening advances of their own on Garland’s goal. But, fortunately, Hadley’s fluid approach play and incisive finishing with which Borough had been unable to cope in the Vase game was not in such regular evidence, although nonetheless Borough’s goal survived several narrow squeaks and off-side decisions were also welcome saviours on more than one occasion. Hadley naturally attacked with increasing urgency and deep into what seemed to be interminable and surprisingly lengthy stoppage time they were awarded a free kick in a central position but the wall held firm and the loose ball did not run kindly for the visitors so Borough duly gained early “revenge” for their recent humiliation. The win moved Borough 3 places up to 8th in the table with 17 points from 11 games, some ten points behind leaders Dunstable Town who have also played 11 and were romping to a 4-0 win at Leverstock Green on the same evening. .
