Game NotesBorough began their pre-season campaign with a hard fought and deserved 2-2 draw against visiting Tilbury of the Ryman League Division One North who reached their Divisional play – off last season. Debut making Borough keeper Austin Byfield was kept busy early on and made some vital saves but he could do nothing when Borough conceded a free kick right on the edge of the area and Tilbury’s experience showed as they took it almost before Borough realised it had been awarded and Emil Aiken was slipped through for an easy finish. Borough were by no means outclassed with Dean Fenton on the right wing and striker Christopher Benjamin giving “The Dockers” defence plenty of problems as they responded to the prompting of Dewayne Clarke who went closest with a low cross shot
which beat the keepers dive but flew inches wide of the far post The second half saw both sides make several changes but the standard of play did not deteriorate with chances being created at both ends which tested the ‘keepers. Clarke missed Borough’s best opportunity early on as he planted a header from a right wing corner well wide. Tilbury doubled their lead when a massive cross from way out on the right wing by Aitken dipped over the desperate leap of substitute goalkeeper Damos Horvath and dropped just under the angle of the crossbar and far post. Borough continued to press forward and drew level through two late penalties blasted home by Darrell Cox the first for an unnecessary hand ball as a corner came over and the equaliser shortly afterwards as he was brought down a few yards from goal as he ran clear.
