Game Notes
A game with nothing much at stake with the home side safely in mid-table and Haringey at best contesting only 4th place was notable by the vastly different approach of the two sides. The only plus factor from Haringey’s point of view following a below par performance at Goffs Lane was the netting of their 100th League goal of the season. With 36 added in knock-out competitions that equates to fractionally over two and a half goals per game. Almost certainly their best ever record. By contrast Broxbourne maintained an obviously higher level of pride in performance and determination throughout. Borough began sluggishly and never raised themselves to the heights of which they are know to be capable and Broxbourne’s opening goal arrived after 16 minutes in a depressingly familiar manner as yet again Borough were hopelessly caught out at a set piece when central defender Albert Bostock was left in splendid isolation to pick a spot for his header as a free kick was launched over. But Borough were level within a minute as a sweeping move down the right ended with Dean Fenton firing over a low cross which Roland Namquita confidently swept home. But parity lasted only seven minutes for Borough then paid the price for not closing down the man with the ball quickly enough and Junior Adeoye seized his opportunity to launch a stunning drive from some 40 yards which flew into the far top corner and would have beaten any ‘keeper – probably a contender for his Club’s goal of the season. Borough then enjoyed their best spell of the game and looked the more likely scorers but it was a huge surprise that central defender Nick Nicou scored the 100th from close range in open play as he had raced ahead of his more advanced colleagues to connect with another low cross from the right and turn the equaliser just inside the near post after 41 minutes. The least said about Borough’s second half performance the better and Adeoye’s simple unchallenged 60th minute open goal tap-in after Borough ‘keeper Ryohei Tamai had made a fine block of a close range shot brought about by some indecisive defending decided the contest in Broxbourne’s favour. Borough created plenty of chances but their finishing was far below that to be expected from a 100 goal outfit. Broxbourne defended determinedly in a no nonsense fashion which deservedly got its reward even though on the overall run of play a draw might have been a more appropriate outcome.

Elsewhere Royston Town were unexpectedly able to celebtare the League Championship after their one-nil win at Oxhey Jets thanks to a totally unexpected home defeat for Dunstable Town, also by 1-0 at the hands of Hillingdon Borough. Haringey’s final game of the season on 28th April at Royston Town which had looked likely to be the decider is now without importance to “The Crows” and instead it may be Borough who need the points to cement 4th place.
