Game NotesFortunately there was little at stake in this end of season game although defeat may well yet see Borough in 5th place when 4th seemed assured just two weeks ago. Borough’s first half display was reasonable although it needed a penalty put away confidently by Lloyd Opara in the 31st minute to secure the lead after Roland Namquita had raced through in the inside right position but appeared to have let the ball run too far ahead only to be felled by a probably unnecessary attempt at an interception. Tring were only inches away from an equaliser in the dying seconds of the first half. There is little that can be said about Borough’s second half performance except that minds were presumably more focused on the coming Tuesdays League Trophy Final against Hillingdon Borough than on the immediate job in hand. Tring just carried on in the same neat pattern and in truth they really had no need even to raise their game to run out the easy winners their more determined efforts deserved. Tony Fields did indeed have a field day with four goals, the first being in open play following some inept Borough defending which allowed the ball to flash across the goal from the right to reach him unmarked some eight yards or so out at the far post. The other three were all penalties with an interesting battle of wits between Fields and Borough ‘keeper Damos Horvath. Horvath guessed that all three would not be aimed at the same spot so went to his right each time but Fields never varied his target of the opposite side so all were easily netted. The first arrived in the 65th minute when Charles Douse tussled with a striker for a high bouncing ball on the edge of the area and having been deemed the last man was dismissed. Three minutes later Daniel Walker was somewhat harshly penalised when the ball hit his arm when he had his back to the play and the third arrived in the last minute when the unfortunate Walker pushed a striker over as he chased back after him and it was fortunate there were other defenders racing back to cover so he did not suffer dismissal. If four penalties suggest a “blood and thunder rough house” nothing could be further from the truth as it was a typical example of the many “non-events” which inevitably happen in a League with no play offs after the destination of the title has been decided. To finish 4th Borough now need to win at Champions Royston Town next Saturday for the margin of todays defeat which was equalled by Aylesbury United’s win (3-0 at home to Royston) means that “The Ducks are now just 2 points behind with an identical goal difference and ironically it may be at Coles Park next Saturday that they overtake Borough as they will be playing there as the away team against London Tigers who have hired the ground.
