Game NotesHarefield United’s Preston Park home has long been a regular graveyard for Borough’s hopes and at half time it seemed most likely that normality would again prevail. But having survived tremendous pressure in the first half, in which a superb goalkeeping performance by Jamaine Edwards was the crucial factor, Borough came more into the game after the interval and it was no great surprise when Borough forced a replay with a superb late equaliser. Borough made the first real chance after only four minutes when Lee Jay directed a header from Lloyd Opara’s cross just over the bar but only two minutes later Edwards was in action for the first time and just managed to tip away a header with a dive to his left hand post. A mazy run by Opara then forced a save from home ‘keeper Carl Tasker but the resultant corner came to nothing. “The Hares” then took over with the dimunitive Craig Totten particularly prominent in midfield and Edwards produced a smart save from another header and followed that with a magnificent tip over of a 25 yard screamer from Totten. Harefield camped around the Borough penalty area for a while and Edwards produced an identical tip over and the corner which followed was met at the far post by Tom Kirk whose header was just wide. Although, as usual, Harefield were not lacking in height their approach play was largely based on fine along the ground passing movements leading to dangerous crosses. Edwards produced another fine save from Wayne Gladdy’s long shot before Danny Buckle went close with a diving header from Totten’s cross and Edwards then dealt competently with Murry Williamson’s effort from distance. But in the 43rd minute Boroughs resistance was finally breached for although Edwards produced a fine sprawling save to deny a player cutting in from the right the ball rebounded kindly for Buckle who easily drove it low into the unguarded net. There was still time for Edwards to execute another fine block as Totten burst through before the break to keep Borough’s hopes alive. But it was a different story after the interval and straight from the kick off Tolu Popoola latched on to a well weighted long ball down the right but as he cut in Tasker was well positioned to grasp his finishing effort. Borough were now enjoying greater midfield control with Melvin Thompson-Klass prompting some fine moves. Opara headed a Geotge Sifonios free kick just wide and play was now regularly flowing from end to end. Gladdy fired a cross shot just over the bar and for Borough Tansel Tezel cut in from the left to see his final effort scrambled away at the foot of a the post. Borough’s cause was not helped when left back Billy Haspineall had to retire injured causing an unwelcome re-organisation to Borough’s back four for he along with Charlie Douse, Alex Davids and Bosun Adebaki had performed solidly and grown in confidence throughout. But Borough shrugged off this reverse and launched into a burst of sustained pressure with some fine passing movements and deserved their equaliser which came with just nine minutes left as a powerful 20 yard drive by Sifonios just defeated Tasker’s leap to nestle in the roof of the net. Both sides fashioned late chances with Jabo Mutsinzi forcing a save from Tasker and hitting another shot over the bar while for Harefield Buckle fired over and Chris Drakes sent a strong effort straight at Edwards.
