Game NotesThe visitors in arrived in desperate need of points and deservedly left with them although why they are in that position is a bit of a mystery as they are clearly better than the three teams below them all of which have easily been despatched twice by Borough, and their goal difference is vastly superior to the other strugglers too. Borough by comparison seemed unwilling to raise their game to hold on to their 4th place in the table – a sentiment clearly not shared by 5th placed Aylesbury United who closed to within two points of Borough and narrowed the goal difference gap to two as well after leaving Hillingdon Borough 4-0 winners. Biggleswade took the points courtesy of an 8th minute goal of the type Borough have conceded to the point of monotony this season when a corner was only half cleared out to the left where it was collected by Glen Lamacraft who turned back inside to blast home a fierce effort. Visiting ‘keeper Scott Waters had earlier made a fine block of a close range Darrell Cox effort. But with a few honourable exceptions Borough turned in a performance for which lacklustre would be a generous description. A few minutes after the goal, the game was marred by a serious incident, necessitating an ambulance and overnight hospital stay, to visiting right back John Bitting who collided with Waters as his ‘keeper advanced for a cross. It is believed to be a broken rib injury. In the scramble which followed Roland Namquita forced the ball home from close range but with the ‘keeper grounded on the edge of the area there was only one covering defender on the line so he was off-side when Cox nudged the ball towards him. Borough’s performance for the remainder of the half was littered with a catalogue of mis-placed passes, miscued clearances and hopelessly optimistic long shots when attacks in numbers were being mounted. A Christopher Morgan cross from the left was headed into the side netting at the far post by Dean Fenton. The best that can be said about Borough’s second half performance is that it was not quite as bad as the first. Biggleswade on the other hand never stopped working hard for each other and probing away with Ade Yussuf in particular always a difficult customer to shake off the ball and they might well have increased their lead when a low cross shot flashed narrowly wide. Cox did flash a late header a few feet over but although Borough created a number of chances and enjoyed the majority of possession and Waters made some important stops the Borough finishing lacked its customary sharpness – indeed this 37th League match was the first in which they have failed to find the net this season. Any more performances like this in the remaining five games – especially if it is replicated away to Aylesbury United next Saturday - and it will be good-bye to 4th place.
