Game NotesBorough produced a lacklustre performance which unsurprisingly earned no reward against an efficient Langford side who played some attractive football on a difficult pitch and should really have been out of sight by half time based on the number of fine chances they created while Borough had made no serious contribution in the field of finishing. The game had an unfortunate start as in the very first minute Borough ‘ keeper Jamaine Edwards rushed forward to collect a high bouncing through ball and collided with central defender Diatomba Denteli putting him out of the game and he left the stadium on crutches. Langford’s Wes Byrne was injured in the same incident and he also took no further part in the proceedings. For Borough Alex Davids moved into the middle alongside Lloyd Mitchell and those two flanked by Billy Haspineall and Charles Douse performed competently throughout but were given little respite by the inability of the midfield and forward players to mount any serious sustained onslaughts so allowing too many clearances to be easily collected by Langford and enabling them to resume their pressure. Strangely, although Borough’s goal survived many near misses – and none closer than a lob over an open goal albeit from a somewhat difficult angle with the final kick of the half – Edwards had not been called into serious action by the interval. And neither had the Langford custodian for Borough’s only real opportunity arrived late in the half when Lasalle Simon robbed dithering defenders to run clear and the defender who pulled him back on the edge of the penalty area was rather lucky not to see red. But Paull Abbott could only send the resultant free kick high over the bar. Borough improved somewhat after the interval and Simon should have equalised early on when another defensive mix up as he chased a bouncing through ball left him in the clear a few yards from goal but he pushed the ball wide of both the advancing ‘keeper and the post. After that Borough produced nothing to trouble the visiting defence unduly and Langford were unable to improve their finishing making a goal-less draw look likely. But the deadlock was broken in the 74th minute when a corner was cleared only to be lobbed straight back into the danger area where several Langford players appeared to be offside but a linesman ruled that one Borough player had been slow to move forward and it was a mere formality for Justin Griffiths to bring down the high ball to turn and slam it low into the net. Shortly after that Edwards produced the only save worthy of mention throughout the game as he flung himself high to his right to tip away what seemed a certain score as a far post header swerved across goal towards the top corner. Borough failed to generate much of a head of steam in the remaining period but it did seem that a miserable afternoon might end with an undeserved point as Lloyd Opara worked his way in from the right but could only direct his low finish into the side netting. All in all it was a rather passionless performance by Borough and not one to be expected of a team fighting to avoid the two bottom places playing at home to a mid-table side. It was fortunate that Kentish Town and Cockfosters also lost to keep the bottom four positions unchanged but Holmer Green narrowed the gap to seven points with an unexpected point gained at Brimsdown Rovers
