Game Notes
With a win being so vital for both Clubs – Borough to banish relegation worries entirely and Town to give themselves a chance of escaping – good football was always going to be secondary to the result. Borough started lethargically and Town eagerly seized the initiative and were rewarded after only five minutes when James Doku was neatly fed a through ball and stepped forward to roll a cross shot into the far corner as Borough ‘keeper Jamaine Edwards advanced. Borough gradually asserted themselves as the half wore on and came close to equalising in one goalmouth scramble but were unable to get anything on target to seriously test home ‘keeper Paul Williamson. But three minutes before the break Ronnie Bridges was totally unmarked a few feet from goal to deliver a free header as Karl Lewis cut the ball back from the bye-line. Four minutes into the second half it was again Lewis who was the provider, this time with a deep cross to the far post enabling Lloyd Opara to direct his header just inside the post. Borough were now well in control and went further ahead when Bosun Adebaki met a corner with a firm downward header which bounced up into the roof of the net. But it was now Kentish Town’s turn to raise their game with nothing left to lose and they gradually got back on top. A nervy final fifteen minutes ensued when Aaron Clarke smashed an 80th minute free kick into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area. One prolonged scramble in front of the Borough goal and some vital clearance punches from Edwards were needed to protect Borough’s lead although Opara came close to settling the game when a half cleared corner reached him but his rocket shot was straight at Williamson who did well to hold on to it. But deep into injury time Opara had the last word when he chased a massive clearance out of defence and managed to outwit both the last defender and the ‘keeper on the edge of the penalty area to nudge the ball gently upwards and bouncing goalwards into the vacant net.

Borough’s final game at home to Cockfosters on Saturday 25th April which for a long while had seemed likely to be a relegation decider is now of little consequence as Cockfosters also ensured they will not finish in the bottom 2 although a win would see them climb above Borough into 18th place
