Game NotesHaringey picked up three precious points from a match made difficult by a bumpy pitch and which could have gone either way. It was a much changed Haringey side, with Niall Ritchie looking dangerous in his unfamiliar strikers role, which had the two best chances of the first half as Lasalle Simon was not “flagged” when he appeared to be well off-side and raced on to confront Broxbourne ‘keeper Obey Morefu only to hesitate at the crucial moment allowing him to fall and smother the ball without committing a foul. Shortly afterwards Morefu thwarted Karl Lewis, also clean through but following a fine build up this time, with a similar save. Broxbourne left winger Tony Burke was a thorn in the side of the Haringey defence throughout the first half but no one capitalised on his crosses and Dan White was in the right position to gather the ball cleanly when the visitors did get shots on target. Haringey stepped up a gear early in the second half and capped a period of pressure by taking the lead through Captain and central defender Bosun Adebaki who moved upfield to meet a corner from the right a few yards out with a powerful header into the roof of the net which gave Morefu no chance. Ten minutes later Lewis made it two as his cross-cum-shot from the right drifted over Morefu who was distracted by the presence of Ritchie and floated under the bar at the far post. Broxbourne then exerted most of the pressure in the remaning time and were unlucky not to get a consolation when a long shot crashed against a post and rebounded into White’s arms and Mark Brennan sent a powerful header only a fraction over the bar. But the Haringey defence held firm and cleared their lines effectively when danger threatened. With Kentish Town losing at Biggleswade Town, Haringey moved above them in the table by two points but have played three games more. They also narrowed the gap on Cockfosters who lost at home to Chalfont St. Peter and have a game in hand on them. Holmer Green picked up a useful point at Tring Athletic but remain nine points behind Haringey and have played a game more.
