Game NotesAt half time few would have forecast the final outcome correctly for Borough had been the dominant force throughout the opening half with home ‘keeper Mark Virgo being by far the busier custodian. However he was only really forced into one outstanding save when he tipped over a long range rocket from Lloyd Mitchell.
Borough’s impressive approach work enabled them to pour in a series of crosses and corners but they never really came close to to making a telling strike. Broxbourne were being outfought in all areas of the field with Borough regularly winning the 50/50 balls and looking by far the more threatening side although Broxbourne should have taken the lead from the one clear chance they engineered shortly before the interval when Oni Thomas worked a clear opening but drove it across the goal and well wide of the far post. After the interval the positions were completely reversed and with Broxbourne’s attack looking more potent they now seemed the more likely winners and duly took the lead after 69 minutes when a missed interception of a through ball enabled Nicky Marsh, who had been the midfield director of operations throughout the second half to race clear and produce a fine example of clinical finishing. Worse was to follow only six minutes later as from one of many Broxbourne corners the ball bobbed about in the danger area and left back Rob Kemble was up with the attack to send a looping header over Dan White and into the net off the underside of the bar. Borough plugged away determinedly but the home defence was now in commanding form and as Borough pressed forward a huge gap was left for Ryan Wade to run into just before full time and another clinical finish produced a scoreline that was somewhat harsh on Borough based on the overall run of play.
