| Game Notes | The visitors enjoyed the lion’s share of early possession without creating any real chances and it was against the run of play as Borough took the lead after 20 minutes when the Wingate keeper could only palm a fierce long shot into the top corner of his net. Borough then enjoyed the better of the remainder of the first half and doubled their lead when David Boal took advantage of prolonged defensive dithering just a few feet from the centre of the goal and forced the ball over the line. But Wingate pulled one back before the interval when Ahmed Rifat spotted Borough ‘keeper Tom How out of position and swept the ball home from some 25 yards. But How made some fine saves in the second half to keep Borough in the game although after their wholesale changes an hour into the game their play became rather disjointed and Wingate took full advantage to dominate the closing stages. Rifat drove home the equaliser following a corner and later missed a simpler chance to complete his hat-trick from another corner. A driven free kick from near the right touchline was deflected in for an own goal to put Wingate in the lead. Borough were now posing little threat upfront and in the last few seconds the unmarked Lewis Jones collected the ball on the edge of the area and drove the fourth low inside How’s left hand post. |
