Game NotesThe Pancake Lane home of Leverstock Green has rarely been a happy hunting ground for us and certainly not the destination of choice for a team hoping to record its first win of the season. While it would be stretching a point to say we came close to ending that unwanted situation it was a bitter blow that we left without a point thanks to a scrappy 89th minute winner when we had looked the more likely victors for the last 30 minutes or so after a spirited second half revival. We certainly did not look like winners in the first half and it was mainly due to their own poor finishing that Leverstock had to wait until the 42nd minute to secure the lead as they had often looked dangerous down the flanks and it was from a low cross from the left by David Parkinson, forced home from close range by Dale Sears, that they eventually went ahead. Borough had given the home ‘keeper nothing to worry about before the interval having wasted three free kicks from very close and promising positions. John Cole had the best chance in open play and but his downward header bounced well wide of the ‘keepers right hand post. Dan White had done well to block both a close range effort and then the rebound although the home striker will probably feel he really ought to have hit it harder and put it away as Dan scrambled to recover after the initial save. Leverstock continued to enjoy the better of the play at the start of the second half and Dan did exceptionally well to get down and push a near point blank free header around the post. But in the middle of the half Borough suddenly sprang into a more confident and aggressive mode and Melvin Thompson finally tested the mettle of the home ‘keeper who did well to block his close range effort as he cut in from the left leading to a succession of Borough corners which the home defence survived although not without some nervous moments. Borough continued to dictate the pace of the game and the equaliser arrived in the 76th minute when a long free kick bounced around in the penalty area and substitute Baron Charlery sent a precise looping header dropping into the far corner of the net. Borough certainly looked good for a point at this stage and it was somewhat against the run of play in the 89th minute when a long ball left Patrick Billong and Leverstock’s James Armstrong to contest possession on the edge of the area and unfortunately Armstrong found the space to direct an accurate although not powerful shot low into the right hand corner of the net as Dan scrambled desperately to tip it round the post without quite succeeding. Borough still pressed forward in injury time and Ry Hardy was only just crowded out on the edge of the area by a combination of goalkeeper and defender as he chased a long through ball but seconds later the whistle went to signal Borough’s fourth straight defeat.
