Game NotesNot nearly so one sided a game as the score suggests. It was Borough’s inability to deal with set piece deliveries which brought about their down-fall after they had started the brighter of the sides and made most of the early running. But Berkhamsted successfully weathered Borough’s storming start and looked dangerous too when they got into their stride. A 22nd minute corner led to a goalmouth scramble which ended with Ashley Addison poking the ball home from a few yards out and worse was to follow five minutes later when another corner was half cleared and Shane Wood looped back a precise header just under the bar from some 10 yards out. Borough continued to attack with some urgency and Murat Karagul came very close with a long range cross shot which flashed inches wide. Ian Maitland screwed a close range effort just the wrong side of the post but Borough fell further behind in the 32nd minute when Addison let fly with a cleverly flighted first timer from 20 yards or so which dipped wickedly under the bar. Borough again made the early running after the interval and looked to have put themselves back in with a chance after only a few minutes. A double substitution saw Uduma Kalu introduced to add more striking power and he immediately involved himself in a fine move down the right wing which enabled Ry Hardy to drive the ball home low and hard six yards out and in the centre of the goal. Borough fought determinedly to fashion a second goal but the home defence had recovered from a somewhat shaky start and the match was effectively ended when Addison met a cross from the right at the far post to nod in his hat-trick goal in the 71st minute. Just before the end of normal time Alex McCarthy made it 5 when he met a right wing corner with a simple unchallenged header in the goal area and it could even have been worse as Borough looked lucky to survive a late penalty for hands appeal. In some final Borough surges Lloyd Mitchell twice forced the ‘keeper to get down to low drives from the edge of the penalty area which he just managed to hold on to as Borough closed in hoping for a rebound.
