Game NotesIt would normally be a cause for celebration to come back from two down but such was our domination of the later stages that it is difficult to avoid disappointment at not securing all three points. Borough opened brightly and sent one shot narrowly wide but it was visiting Oxhey Jets who took a 26th minute lead when Paul Turner cleverly flighted a header goalwards as he met a free kick and it swerved just inside Dan White’s left hand post. The speedy Jamie Arthur threatened to burst clear twice for the visitors but Patrick Billong proved equal to the challenge and White produced a fine deflection to deny him on the one occasion he got completely clear. Borough frequently strung together promising moves and forced a number of corners and with the visiting ‘keeper often preferring to punch rather than grasp there was always the possibility of Borough picking up a loose ball but they were never able to take advantage. After the interval a Borough header went just over the bar but they fell further behind in the 49th minute when a well worked move down the right left Turner clear to slam in his second goal low and hard from some six yards out in the 49th minute. But Borough’s heads never fell and for the rest of the game they attacked purposefully and often tested the visiting keeper. Lloyd Mitchell sent a rocket of a long shot inches over and the first reward came in the 62nd minute when Melvin Thompson met Sam McCarthy’s accurate cross with a bullet header which flew in just under the bar. The visiting keeper got down low to turn Kieran Donnelly’s hard drive away at the foot of a post. Borough forced a number of corners which were none too convincingly dealt with by the visiting defence but it was a straight down the middle long ball which brought the equaliser as Lewis Laws outpaced everyone to arrow the ball low into the corner to the ‘keepers right from the edge of the penalty area. After that apart from an occasional Oxhey sortie all the pressure came from Borough and following another corner Ry Hardy’s angled shot was scrambled off the line by a covering defender although Borough were convinced his foot was behind the line when contact was made with the ball. Melvin Thompson was only inches wide with another header in the dying seconds.
