TypeFA Cup Extra Prelim Round
Game NotesBorough’s hopes of a money-spinning FA Cup run were quickly extinguished in a match where possession and chances were equally shared but the visitors had the edge in finishing sharpness with Jamanhi Henry their hat-trick hero being particularly effective. Dan White had already needed to get down quickly to grab a low drive at the foot of his right hand post as Bedfont enjoyed the better of the early exchanges and it was no surprise when Henry scored his first in the 16th minute as he found himself in plenty of space when Borough looked in vain for an off-side decision. Six minutes later it was two as Borough’s defence got in a tangle just inside their own half which allowed the speedy Henry to burst clear and drill home his second. Joe Seabrook blasted over from close range but Borough’s finishing was not accurate enough to trouble the visitors custodian unduly as the little which was on target was comfortably dealt with. After the interval Borough attacked with greater determination and seemed likely to at least secure a draw when Ian Maitland slammed home a low hard shot as Ry Hardy sped clear down the right and stroked the ball into his path. But it took only a few minutes for Bedfont to restore their two goal cushion as a long free kick was allowed to find Henry just wide of White’s right hand post and he hooked it home confidently from a tight angle. Borough continued to press but were still unable to give the visiting ‘keeper a serious test and as spaces appeared at the back Bedfont could well have increased their lead with one chance being casually knocked over the top from close range. Borough’s hope of launching a successful late onslaught was not helped when Sam McCarthy picked up a second caution and was dismissed and the visitors played out time confidently enough.
