Game NotesBorough finally put their indifferent recent form behind them and outplayed a team who started the game sixteen points above them. The first half saw both defences on top. “The Ducks” looked most threatening from set pieces but with Brian Sealey inspiring confidence behind them the Borough back four of Rakim Richards, Andreas Loizou, Edmund Arthur and Demetri Stratis coped well with both the aerial threat and more sophisticated approach work. In front of them Guy Koffi added additional security and Aylesbury were never allowed to create any gilt-edged opportunities with Sealey always alert to gather anything on target cleanly. But after some thirty minutes Craig Townsend forced Sealey into what may have been his save of the season as he unleashed a rocket of a shot about a yard off the ground from some twelve yards or so which swerved viciously and seemed certain to finish just inside the near post but with a tremendous arms outstretched dive Sealey just got enough on the ball to tip it round for a corner. The Aylesbury defence too was in commanding form and allowed Borough no clear chances or the opportunity to give their ‘keeper Jack Sillitoe any real test in the first 45 minutes although it was not for want of trying on Borough’s part. Richards went closest as he met a corner from the right but powered his header well over. After the interval Aylesbury ceded the initiative to an eager Borough side who should have taken an early lead when Richards ran onto a long free kick but somehow managed to lift it over the bar from a yard or so when scoring looked easier. Daniel Ailey was now causing problems for the home defence being thwarted on more than one occasion by narrow off-side decisions. David Boal was pulling the strings in midfield and in the 72nd minute his superbly weighted through ball invited Ailey to charge forward and this time he beat the off-side trap to run clear and lash an unstoppable ten yard shot into the roof of the net. Borough never attempted to sit on their lead but stepped up the pressure and were rewarded with a second goal eight minutes later as Ailey swept the ball across the face off the goal and in at the far post as he met a low cross from the right at the near post. There never looked to be a serious likelihood of an Aylesbury comeback with set pieces continuing to provide their only potential threats but Borough continued to play attractive football and, deep into injury time, Theo Charalambos eschewed the opportunity to run down the clock by taking the ball to the corner flag down the left but cut inside instead to drill home a curling shot across Sillitoe and inside the far post.
