Game NotesBorough quickly put the disappointing performance of the previous Tuesday against Hertford Town behind them, ironically against a team who had beaten Hertford the previous Saturday. Hatfield started the brighter of the two teams and took the lead after 14 minutes when a huge “up and under” out of defence took a high bounce and tall midfielder Terry caswell timed his forward run in perfectly to outjump ‘ keeper Greg Thurstans and loop his header just under the bar. It looked to be anyone’s game for a while but after half an hour Borough turned up the pressure and camped in their opponents half for lengthy periods. Several corners were won and central defender Charles Douse dutifully trotted upfield for all of them and was rewarded for his efforts two minutes from the interval when one was not cleared effectively enabling him to control it with his chest and smash it low into the corner. After the interval there was only really one team in it and Thurstans was never tested throughout the second 45 minutes. Borough went ahead after 55 minutes when Liam Farrell chased what seemed to be a lost cause to the left bye-line and somehow screwed the ball back low across the goal and into the net via the far post. Three minutes later David Boal challenged home ‘keeper Will Norris for a long high ball and played it back for Richard Worrell to blast home from some 10 yards. Any hope Hatfield might have had of retrieving the game more or less disappeared midway through the half when one of their best players Sean Sawyer received two yellow cards within a few seconds through dissent followed by an unwise comment to the referee. Farrell got the 4th after 81 minutes as he turned quickly to direct the ball home following one of many flowing moves. Borough were now in complete control with Boal and Guy Koffi bossing the midfield while Douse and Edmund Arthur were always assured at the back. Slick passing moves down both wings created many half chances and forced several corners and Worrell completed the scoring in injury time with a powerful close range drive which gave Norris no chance. The win lifted Borough above Hatfield Town and also Dunstable Town, surprise surrenderers of a two goal lead at Harefield United, into 7th place.
