Game Notes | Borough made the short journey to Potters Bar Town’s Stadium to meet their ground-sharers Hadley, promoted from Division One last season. If expectations had been raised by the superb performance at Tring the previous Tuesday they were not to be realised. Borough never got near to producing the quality of which thay are now known to be capable and in a wholly forgettable first half the home ‘keeper was never really tested and the main interest was in how the Borough defence would cope with the aerial threat of Hadley’s giant striker Melford Simpson; in practice they fared quite well managing to win the ball on many occasions and otherwise being well positioned to deal with his flick ons. But it was fortunate that Hadley won very few corners from which he would have posed a massive problem. The ball spent a long time in the air and slick passing moves were few and far between although the pitch was not really conducive to that type of approach. Theo Charalambos had Borough’s best chance of the half but his fierce drive swerved just the wrong side of the post. Play continued in the same vein after the interval and the decisive goal arrived ten minutes into the half. The header by Jessie Reynolds was precise and flighted well out of Brian Sealey’s reach. It came after a short spell of Hadley pressure when a half clearance was quickly fired back into the danger area and found Reynolds completely unmarked around the penalty spot. Borough did step up a gear after that setback but the Hadley defence was in uncompromising mood and smashed long balls back into the Borough half at every opportunity. Richard Worrell did test the home’ keeper with a powerful angled drive and we were unlucky when a fine low cross shot by substitute Jamie Brandon beat the ‘keeper all ends up but crashed back off the post. In the closing stages Borough brought on their latest signing, striker Shane Wyllie erstwhile of Potters Bar Town, St. Neots Town and AFC Hayes, and while he did not have time to really influence the game he did enough to show that he has the experience and ability to make a significant contribution to the final third of the season. A mid-table match with nothing much at stake which will not last long in the memory and in which no Borough player really enhanced their reputation.
