Game NotesBorough lost out in a thriller of a game in which both teams favoured attacking football which kept both defences at full stretch throughout to keep the score down. The first real chance fell to “The Crows” Ryan Lockett whose close range diving header was somehow turned over the bar by Brian Sealey, a contender for “save of the season”. The return of Adam Scotcher added mobility and aggression to the Borough attack but it was David Boal who went closest for Borough as he tore in from the right to have his effort blocked by Royston ‘keeper Jorden Gibson. Jamie Brandon was quick to sieze on the loose ball but could only fire it high over the bar. Royston were making the greater number of chances with Sealey equal to everything aimed at him until the 35th minute when Bobby Dance sent in a low first time cross shot from some 12 yards out which, although lacking venom, passed under Sealey’s mis-timed dive. Borough won a number of free kicks from promising positions during the first half but all were wasted without causing the home ‘keeper any concern. After the interval Borough looked quite capable of pulling the game round but in the 53rd minute were undone by Sealey’s rash challenge on Dance wide out on the bye-line when he was running away from goal and no-one could argue with the penalty decision. Dance stroked it home unfussily low and accurately to Sealey’s left having sent him the wrong way. This reverse spurred Borough on and heads never dropped. Charles Douse saved Borough with a superb headed clearance off the goal-line and Sealey made another fine save to thwart Ashley Grinham’s far post header from a deep cross, but in the main it was Borough who now looked the more threatening team. Royston’s defence was never able to relax and made full use of its height advantage when high balls were pumped in. Brandon fired a 25 yard free kick from a central position just over the bar. Borough’s slick passing movements always looked to have the potential to reap reward although it was from a close range goal mouth scramble that they came nearest to scoring. The Royston defence never allowed Borough room to fire in any close range or distance shots which would have tested Gibson. Borough’s second half performance was possibly the best they have played all season and they will certainly play worse but win.
