Game NotesColney Heath were deserving winners for their domination of the first half although Borough will feel frustrated as they were really the authors of their own misfortune in conceding all three goals. Borough were penned back as they faced the threat of a quick moving home attack making good use of their wind and slope advantage. Borough ‘keeper Brian Sealey was in fine form as he dealt with a succession of shots, crosses and corners with assured handling. Borough were making little headway up front producing nothing to cause home ‘keeper Tom Blackman much concern and created only two real half chances in the first half both falling to Richard Worrell who could not get in a telling finish. Borough survived a confident penalty appeal when Sealey tangled with a striker wide out to the right on the bye-line. Had Colney’s finishing been of the same standard as their approach work they might have been comfortably ahead by the midpoint of the half as Borough’s defence was kept under pressure with the ball repeatedly picked up in midfield from their clearances and swiftly moved back into their danger area. As it was it needed an own goal to set Colney on their way as Sealey misjudged his advance from the line to collect a high ball in from the left , being too far forward as he reached for it and could only flap it into his own net in the 38th minute. For the unfortunate keeper matters were about to get worse only a minute later as a long low shot from some 35 yards out by Carl Ashton which appeared to be a straight forward pick up job as it was straight at him somehow found its way through his legs, possibly not having bounced off the heavy pitch and up into his arms as he had anticipated. Borough managed to regain composure sufficiently to reach the interval without further scares and at the start of the second half, with the slope and wind now helping them, looked as if they might well make a comeback especially following the early introduction of Miguel Martins whose speed and determination quickly gave the home defence something to worry about. But there was no real devilment in the Borough finishing and when Colney introduced the free scoring Ian Cooper they began to look the more likely scorers; and so it proved when an over hasty throw out by Sealey was picked up and moved into Cooper’s path although he had a lot to do to work his way into the area and find room to turn and arrow a fine finish low into the corner in the 69th minute. But for that goal there might have been a nail-biting finish for Borough pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute when Daniel Ailey ran clear onto a long through ball and finished with a clinical low shot past the advancing Blackman. Borough pressed forward in the remaining time but corners were the most they could achieve although the home defence was not finding it as easy as previously to dominate. Inevitably Borough left gaps at the back and Sealey started the match as he had begun it keeping the score to a respectable level with some fine blocks in one-on one situations.
