Game NotesUltimately a convincing win but rather harsh on Langford who, until the last quarter of an hour had seemed just as likely to make progress and for the first thirty minutes had made Borough rather than themselves look like the League’s bottom side. Borough made a disappointing start with the defence being penetrated far too easily and making some poor clearances but getting little help from a midfield too often slower to 50/50 balls or a strike force causing no threat at all. There had already been some worrying attempts on the Borough goal and it was fortunate that the home finishing did not match their fast skilful approach work before they took the lead in the 12th minute. Even then it was Borough who put the ball in the net for them as when the ball bounced around dangerously in the goalmouth Andreas Loizou ended the scramble by slicing his attempted clearance past ‘keeper Brian Sealey. Langford should have doubled their tally when the unmarked Tom Ahmed met a long cross in from the right but directed his header over from just a few yards range in a central position. Langford did get the ball in the net following another goalmouth melee in which Sealey had made two great stops before it was scrambled home but by a striker who had been offside when the first shot which Sealey beat away had been fired in. Little had been seen of Borough as an attacking force and the equaliser in their first real threat was against the run of play. When the ball scraped the cross bar and bounced down onto the line Tolu Popoola reacted quickest to bundle it home. This 37th minute success woke Borough up and play became even for the remainder of the half. Borough looked a more determined team after the interval and Langford created only one real chance which was wasted by a weak finishing effort. Borough introduced two defensive substitutes, Charles Douse and Rakim Richards to replace Popoola and Nick Nicou both carrying slight injuries and as has become customary Theo Charalambos was them moved forward from his right-back berth. Borough went close when Constantinos Georgiou battled his way through down the left to send over a fine cross from the bye-line but Daniel Ailey directed his far post header just wide. Borough stepped up a gear in the last fifteen minutes and David Boal found space in a crowded penalty area in the 77th minute to turn and fire a first time cross-shot low into the corner. Langford still looked capable of getting back into the game but were deflated by another Borough strike two minutes later when Jamie Brandon moved in from the left to roll a perfectly weighted short ball into Boal’s path and without breaking stride he smashed a spectacular effort right into the top corner from inside the “D””. After that there never looked to be any likelihood of Langford taking the game to extra time and in the first minute of stoppage time Charalambos was in the right place to move unchallenged onto a ball fired in from wide on the left and tap it into the net at the far post. And a minute later Ailey was in position to complete the scoring with a firm downward header at the far post when a floating long cross came in from the right. In the semi-final, Borough will meet the winners of the outstanding tie between Leverstock Green and Stotfold and success in that would see them playing Colney Heath or Hillingdon Borough in the Final
