Game NotesFor the second week running Borough failed to turn the lion’s share of possession and chances into goals and were left pointless through a simple 82nd minute breakaway goal. The Borough attack lacked its usual sharpness and the visiting keeper although kept busy was only really severely tested once and passed with flying colours as he leapt to his left to tip over Ry Hardy’s powerful drive from just outside the penalty area early in the second half. Borough had looked likely to run away with the game in the early stages with Karl Lewis making several dangerous runs as an overlapping full back and Mark Maher working hard in midfield. Sam Joiner had a chip nodded off the line and although the Amersham strikers worked hard they produced nothing to worry Daniel White unduly. Borough continued to dominate after the interval but were too elaborate in front of goal on a sticky and bumpy pitch not suited to a slick short passing game with many players strangely reluctant to let fly when half chances were available. An Amersham striker burst clear as Borough looked for an off-side decision which never came and only a desperate intervention by Lewis forced him to shoot hastily and wide. As the game wore on Amersham began to string together some flowing moves and the only goal came eight minutes from time when Adamson Ajayi collected the ball just outside the left corner of the penalty area to turn and shake off two defenders and shoot low and hard just inside White’s right hand post. Borough attacked with ever greater urgency but the the stubborn Amersham defence held firm and Borough were allowed no clear openings in the remaining period; indeed only a wild miss when clean through on a breakaway prevented the visitors doubling their lead as Borough threw caution to the wind. Defeat drops Borough to fifth place in the table but so tight is the scramble at the top with only eight points separating the top 6 teams that they would draw level with the leaders by winning their two games in hand.
