| Game Notes | A Borough win never looked to be in doubt after they secured a two goal lead in the first quarter of an hour. Dean Fenton had an early chance but was thwarted by the ‘keeper in a one-on-one and minutes later it was fortunate that Charles Douse was alert and nodded away for a corner a routine long ball into the area which was allowed to bounce. In the 5th minute the lead was secured when fenton sped away down the right flank to drive across a low centre which Anthony McDonald lifted into the top corner at the near post. The home team thought they had equalised when a statuesque defence allowed Paul Inkpen to head home unchallenged from close range but an Assistants flag cut short their celebrations. Borough doubled their lead through Fenton’s crisp finish in the 14th minute. The match was effectively won in the 35th minute when McDonald finished a flowing move instigated by Daniel Aristidou’s mazy run and superb close control. After that it was largely a procession of many chances created by Borough – some of the gilt edged variety which seemed easier to score than miss but only Fenton found the net again in the 75th minute. Borough ‘keeper Austin Byfield was called upon to produce one fine save when he smothered a swerving free kick at the foot of his right hand post and later held on well to a twenty yard snapshot but there was really little serious threat to Borough’s supremacy.
