Game Notes | Borough began life in their new Essex Senior League environment rather slowly and it was visiting Eton Manor who made the early running, winning several corners which Borough’s rather shaky looking defence just about repelled. But in the 28th minute Manor did take the lead when a low free kick was driven in from way out on the touchline about 5 yards from the corner flag and indecisive defending of a ball which should have been cleared allowed it to reach Kevin Bandjangi who flicked it home from close range. This reverse spurred Borough into greater urgency and they began to make regular threatening inroads into the heart of the Manor defence especially down the right with dangerous low crosses being fired in from the edge of the penalty area close to the bye-line. One such reached Lawrence Constanti unmarked in front of goal but he screwed his shot wide of the far post. But Dean Fenton made no mistake with his similar opportunity as he sent a screamer into the far top corner way beyond the reach of visiting ‘keeper Simon Gallagher in the 31st minute. Ten minutes later a similar build up enabled Anthony McDonald to score what was to be the winner with a very different type of finish as he sent his ground shot swerving beyond Gallagher’ reach low into the corner. Borough dominated proceedings in the second half creating numerous opportunities but Gallagher assisted by some determined last ditch blocking by his defence foiled all attempts to make the game safe; but the Borough defence with new signing Daniel Gudgeon in tandem with Nick Nicou dominant both in the air and on the floor never looked to be in serious danger of conceding the slender advantage. Of Borough’s 15 man quad, 12 were re-signings from last season with Solomon Shields (ex St. Albans City), Daniel Gudgeon (Chesham United) and Stephanos Georgiou (from Cyprus) being the newcomers.
