| Game Notes | Despite not having played a game since December 12th Borough never looked ring-rusty in their London Senior Cup game away to Ryman League Premier Division Wingate & Finchley. By the interval, a neutral would have been hard-pressed to decide which was the Level 3 and which the Level 5 Club. Leon Smith had driven a low cross shot against a Borough post but Borough had made plenty of chances through the lively running of Dean Fenton and debut making Deniz Mehmet. Darrell Cox was off-target with two half chances but Fenton’s ferocious 25 yard free kick from the left was the nearest Borough came to scoring as it whistled inches past the far top corner and it is doubtful if the airborne home keeper could have got a firm enough touch to palm it out had it been inches inside. A second Fenton free kick from a more central position smashed into the wall. The Borough defence had coped admirably with a great deal of highly threatening home attacks especially down the left wing but so resolute was the protection of the penalty area aided by the willingness of the more forward players to get back to help that Wingate were often forced to pass backwards after finding it impossible to thread a way through. Erbil Bozkurt dealt confidently with everything on target and Lewis Laws made a particularly vital last ditch interception when a goal seemed certain. Play continued evenly after the interval but a rare defensive lapse allowed Wingate a half chance which Leon Smith smashed home after 58 minutes. But two minutes later Borough were back on terms with a fine swerving low shot from the edge of the area by Fenton which nestled just inside the ‘keepers left hand post. Unfortunately, Borough were then quickly reduced to ten men when Rickelle Christian, already booked for a foul, foolishly kicked the ball away after a free kick had been awarded. Although Borough continued to make sorties and create a few chances of their own they inevitably had to survive a lot of late pressure and, in truth, would not have done so had the home teams finishing been sharper as several fine chances went begging. A 1-1 draw at full time was a great result for Borough and fortunately extra time is not played in this competition as they could hardly have expected to survive a further 30 minutes while a man short. But, sadly, the penalty shoot out started with that from Cox being saved and although Wingate fired their first well over there was only to be one more miss, with Bozkurt having had little chance of reaching any of the following fierce blasts. The end came when Joe O'Cearuill's final effort crashed against a post and Wingate seized the opportunity to avoid the imminent sudden death stage with a fierce final kick.
