Game NotesHaringey Borough put their early exit of the FA Cup behind them and got their league campaign off to a winning start against London Tigers on Tuesday night.

Goals from Darrell Cox and Kyriacos Portou were enough to secure the 3 points, although wasteful finishing meant the game was needlessly close despite Borough's domination in terms of chances.

Haringey started the strongest, putting pressure on their opponents with a couple of early corners but didn't offer a serious goal threat until the 17th minute, when Dewayne Clarke received the ball on the right side of the area, took it towards the byline and drilled in a cross for Darrell Cox to turn in.

London Tigers sat deep and offered their best attacks on the counter, particularly down the right through tricky winger Zurab Tusiashuili whose shot into the area led to a penalty appeal for handball, but the referee adjudged the block to be legal.

Borough had their first chances to double their lead on the 22nd minute but an excellent sliding block from Marcus Lansiquot stalled one attack, while Roland Namquita just pushed the ball wide after catching the Tiger's 'keeper in possession.

Further chances in the first half saw the Tigers 'keeper deny Namquita twice, while Cox also headed wide after a good ball in from Portou on the left.

If Borough were frustrated at only being one up at half time they quickly made amends at the beginning of the second half scoring just 45 seconds after the break. After quickly getting forward the ball came to Portou who applied a simple finish to double the lead.

To their credit, Tigers responded immediately and were only denied by a fantastic reaction save from Austin Byfield who turned a close range shot from Terence Cariba over the bar.

However, Borough continued to make chances and only a combination of good saves, the crossbar and some loose finishing keep the score down.

Towards the end of the game Borough sat back and invited Tigers to attack, attempting to catch them on the break, but again some good chances went begging.

Tigers grabbed a consolation goal in the first minute of stoppage time when a neat ball found Kye Hendrix with space in the area and he coolly finished, but there wasn't enough time for the opposition to punish Borough for their failure to make their chances count.
