Game NotesBorough continued their habit of making disastrous starts as they fell behind early on for the third successive match. After only 3 minutes ineffective defending of a corner gifted a simple chance to Steve Brown who fired “The Jets” ahead from close range. The visitors continued to look the more determined side and it was no surprise when they doubled their lead after 18 minutes – whether it was the head of Brown or that of Borough’s Marvin Walker which got onto the end of a free kick is debatable but either way it flew into the top corner. Borough finally began to exert pressure as the half wore on and Daniel Ailey was always a problem to the visiting defence; he seemed sure to score when from a one on one chance with the advancing keeper Steve Dule but his careful lob went just outside the far post. But he was not to be denied for long and in the 42nd minute drove the ball home strongly from some 10 yards. After the interval Borough continued to enjoy the majority of possession but almost fell further behind when Borough ‘keeper Greg Thurstans was closed down as he went to collect a back pass and as he tried to dribble upfield his clearance was blocked and fell conveniently for a striker to drive the ball immediately at the gaping net but a tremendous backwards leap by Bosun Adebaki who had only been on the field a few minutes enabled him to execute a spectacular clearing header. Having made such a vital contribution his participation was ended a few minutes later as he fell awkwardly. Borough pressure told in the 69th minute when a seconds hesitation between a defender and Dule who had looked favourites to win the race for a long through ball saw Liam Farrell nip in between them and when Dule brought him down as he took the ball past him a penalty and a red card was the inevitable outcome. Substitute ‘keeper Mark Jessup, himself returning after a lay off for a very serious injury, was unlucky not to make the save as he guessed right but the sheer power and accuracy of Ailey’s spot kick was just too much for him. Borough then forced their opponents to concentrate on defence and Ailey should have completed his hat-trick as he mis-kicked from a few yards out when a free kick was fired over from the right and the ball was somehow scrambled away at the end of the ensuing scramble. Borough looked the most likely winners but the final ball was never quite of the quality of some attractive build up play. The game ended badly for Borough when central defender Charles Douse was injured in an accidental tangle of legs with a striker as they challenged for the ball and the referee rightly stopped the game instantly so both could receive treatment. Douse was carried off and the resultant disruption as three substitutes had already been used nearly cost Borough the game for it was Oxhey who twice created but wasted dangerous situations in the remaining two minutes.
