| Game Notes | Each side scored two goals but unfortunately Borough’s were misdirected into their own net. If the margin was a little harsh on Borough, there is no doubt the better team won for despite no lack of endeavour on Borough’s part the visiting keeper was never once tested. Diatomba Denteli was a massive presence at the heart of the Borough defence and Adam Scotcher ran himself into the ground up front but to prevail against a team of Tring’s all round quality everyone would have needed to replicate the top notch performance which had so nearly produced a major surprise on Saturday, and sadly it did not happen. For the visitors, their Captain Graham Hall was the springboard for much of their best work. Whenever a Tring player was in possession he never lacked support and options. It was no surprise when Tring took the lead after only 7 minutes as Chris Salmon met a diagonal free kick from the right to plant a firm downward header low into the left corner of ‘keeper Nick Christofi’s goal. Midway through the half Borough forced themselves more into the game but for all their efforts never managed to threaten the composure of a solid Tring defence. Borough often looked vulnerable to high balls lobbed into the danger area and Christofi tipped one rocket shot over the bar. After the interval Tring seemed sure to double their lead immediately but Christofi produced another superb save as he dived full length to his right and somehow diverted a powerful close range ground shot for a corner. At this stage Borough were enjoying plenty of possession and looking capable of forcing a draw but disaster struck in the 54th minute as a free kick from the centre circle looked sure to be easily cleared by Bosun Adebaki only for him to miscue his header and loop the ball into the top corner of his own net. Shortly afterwards a Craig Scotcher tackle incurred the displeasure of the referee for a second time and Borough became a man short but seemed to step up a gear, pressing forward strongly but without ever being allowed to create even a half chance. Another own goal in the 79th minute extinguished any lingering come-back hopes as a corner seemed to have been cleared to safety only to be returned by a long range blast which struck Andrew Julius standing on the edge of the penalty area and completely changed direction to nestle just inside a post past the wrong-footed Christofi. Before the end Borough were reduced to nine men following an injury to Adebaki after all substitutions had been made but to their credit they still went searching for a consolation goal although with the inevitable gaps appearing at the back it was Tring substitute Matt Myatt who was in space at the end of a flowing move with time to pick his spot for the final goal from just inside the area.
