Game NotesBOROUGH have rarely been disappointed to finish a game against League leaders with a point but so great has been their recent improvement that a draw now tends to be viewed as two points lost. Naturally the sense of frustration was heightened by the Chalfont equalizer having arrived deep into stoppage time. After the opening sparring Borough took the lead in the 12th minute when Adam Scotcher swept home a cross shot to finish off a move down the right. Clear cut chances were few and far between but Lloyd Opara came within a whisker of doubling the lead as he raced clear only to be denied by a fine last ditch tackle as he was about to pull the trigger. Surprisingly, Chalfont produced nothing in the first half to give Borough ‘keeper Brian Sealey a serious test but they should have equalized when Barry Brosnan somehow lifted the ball over the bar from only a few yards when it reached him totally unmarked at the far post. An un-knowing observer of the first half might well have thought that Borough were the Championship chasers – and they certainly did not look like a team third from bottom of the Division; but after the interval Chalfont exerted greater pressure with Borough not able to produce a second half test for the visiting ‘keeper. However, the Borough defence with central defenders Bosun Adebaki and Diatomba Denteli in masterful form was allowing no easy opportunities to be created and in front of them Craig Scotcher offered his usual “take no prisoners” protective shield. Sealey’s handling was always clean and confident and he did well to tip over one long distance rocket and to hold on to a fierce low shot which came at him through a ruck of players Borough did survive two confident penalty appeals – the second arising from a foul right on the line as a striker raced in from the right and prepared to send over a cross from the bye-line. The points were thrown away during stoppage time when the ball was carelessly lost on the half way line with Chalfont taking the opportunity to force a corner which Daniel Hughes powered home. A bitterly disappointing end for Borough but probably a fair result over the 90 minutes. Borough moved up a place as the point brought them level with last Tuesdays 8 goal victims Hillingdon Borough who lost again despite having a two goal lead at one time. Unsurprisingly Borough now have the better goal difference. With Kentish Town somewhat unexpectedly losing at bottom markers Welwyn Garden City Borough are now five points above the drop zone with 4 games in hand on Town.
