| Game Notes | For the second week running Borough stormed back in the second half having given a disappointing display in the first 45 minutes. This time it was at Colney Heath’s fine Recreation Ground pitch – conducive to good football – to which Borough’s home game had been switched owing to doubt concerning the playability of Coles Park. After the opening even exchanges Borough fell behind after 11 minutes when a misunderstanding between ‘keeper Brian Sealey and central defender Bosun Adebaki gifted the lurking John Donoghue the opportunity to slot the ball into the corner from a few yards out. Borough’s defence continued to look jittery for some time and they were lucky when further confusion saw a floated effort scrape the cross bar and stay out. Colney Heath’s promising approach work often looked dangerous but Sealey dealt confidently with everything which came his way and Diatomba Denteli amd Adebaki began to assert themselves effectively at the heart of the defence. Borough enjoyed a reasonable share of possession but only once seriously threatened the Heath goal when Mario Georgiou’s powerful run in from the left saw him push the ball past onrushing ‘keeper Tom Blackman only to see it flash inches wide of the far post. A minute from the interval Borough equalized with a somewhat fortuitous goal as Adam Scotcher although running away from goal was clumsily brought down by Blackman and Lloyd Opara waited for the ‘keeper to commit himself before driving the ball home hard and central. It was a different story after the interval with Borough seizing the initiative with Opara in particular pulling the strings effectively and almost from the restart he worked himself clear to send over a short cross from the left but Craig Scotcher at the far post could not quite get high enough to direct his header downwards. But in the 50th minute Opara raced clear onto a long ball and beat the ‘keeper as he cut in from the left and drove the ball towards the vacant goal but it still needed the speed and strength of Adam Scotcher to win the race with the covering defender and smash it home. Borough were now creating but wasting many good chances with some very near misses and fine saves by Blackman. Colney Heath looked less dangerous but still managed to force several corners which Borough dealt with reasonably comfortably. Midway through the half Colney Heath’s commanding central defender Matt Corbould departed the fray after collecting a second yellow card and Borough made good use of their numerical advantage with full backs Billy Haspineall and Charles Douse always eager to power forward. The third goal arrived in the 73rd minute in the course of a prolonged goalmouth scramble as a linesman’s eagle eye spotted that Opara had at one point forced the ball over the line. Colney Heath continued to press forward but again could win nothing more than a series of corners and inevitably plenty of space at the back for Borough to exploit and, after several near misses and good work by Blackman, Opara completed his hat-trick with a clinical finish in injury time. It was Borough’s highest score of the season and enabled them to climb to within striking distance of several Clubs just above them while moving six points clear of both Kentish Town who lost their home game with Hillingdon Borough by 2-0 and their coming midweek opponents Welwyn Garden City whose 2-0 win at St. Margaretsbury lifted them above Town on goal difference..
